Toronto’s Weekend Events: Festivals, Fashion, and Fan Conventions

With the final weekend of August upon us, there’s an abundance of festivals and events happening across the Greater Toronto Area.

From cultural celebrations to fashion showcases and fan conventions, here’s a roundup of events you might want to attend.

Toronto Korean Festival

If you love Korean food, music, and games, head to the Toronto Korean Festival at Mel Lastman Square in North York from Friday to Sunday. The festival will feature performances by breakdancing crew Fusion MC, K-pop boy group JUST B, and female rock band Rolling Quartz. Entry is free.

Leslieville Beerfest

Beer enthusiasts will enjoy Leslieville Beerfest on Saturday. Dundas Street East will be closed between Logan and Carlaw avenues for this street party, featuring local breweries, food vendors, and artisans. Tickets are $40 and include a commemorative sampling mug and two beer tokens.

Summer Live Music Festival

Experience a range of music at the Summer Live Music Festival at Trillium Park in Ontario Place from Friday to Sunday. This free festival offers diverse programming, including jazz, pop, and world music performances.

Fan Expo Canada

Fan Expo Canada returns to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, celebrating comics, anime, and sci-fi. Meet celebrities, get your comic book signed, shop for merchandise, and connect with other fans at this four-day convention running from August 24 to August 27.

Egyptian Festival

Mississauga’s Celebration Square will host the Egyptian Festival this weekend, expected to attract over 35,000 attendees from across the GTA. The event, running Saturday and Sunday, will showcase Egyptian culture, music, and traditions. Admission is free.

African Fashion Week Toronto

African Fashion Week takes over downtown Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square on Friday. Organized in partnership with the Afro Centre for the Arts, the non-profit initiative will highlight African designers and brands from Ontario and abroad. The event continues through Sunday with various activities, including runway and couture shows at different city locations.

AfroJazz Fest

One of Ontario’s largest multicultural festivals, AfroJazz Fest, celebrates African and Caribbean cultures in the Peel-Halton area.
